Auggie Island was brought to life through the collaboration of a passionate author and a talented illustrator.

Brittany Bainum, Author

Brittany Bainum

Author

Brittany (Heppner) Bainum was raised in Louisville, Ohio. After graduating from high school, she headed to Columbus to attend Capital University, where she lettered all four years on the varsity volleyball team. She earned her undergraduate degree in Business in 2005 and her MBA in 2010. Capital University is also where she met her husband, Jason Bainum, and the two married in 2007.

After spending nearly two decades in leadership roles within Human Resources, Brittany chose to step back to focus on their three busy and beautiful children. During this time, she discovered that her youngest child learned best through visual methods—an insight that inspired her to blend visual beauty with imaginative storytelling to teach multiplication. This discovery ultimately led to her debut children’s story, Auggie Island

Illustrator

Andrea (Soehnlen) Ohman is a Louisville, OH native and proud graduate of the University of Akron. She met her now husband in high school, and together they’ve navigated the many adventures of military life for over 20 years. During this time, she worked in various roles within healthcare Human Resources.

Her creative journey, however, began more recently. The experience of moving, adapting, and embracing new communities inspired her to pick up an old passion of art. At home, she’s also a devoted dog mom, often finding her furry companions curled up nearby as she paints.

Working primarily in watercolor, Andrea blends soft textures, vibrant colors, and expressive design to create artwork full of warmth and imagination. Her illustrations often feature whimsical characters and gentle storytelling elements, brought to life through her expressive brushwork and attention to detail. Whether capturing playful moments or quiet, reflective scenes, Andrea approaches each piece with heart and intention, hoping her art brings joy and inspiration to every viewer.
